Thank You All

Normally my Saturday devotion only goes out to those who support my ministry with donations, as a special thank you for the generous giving which sustains this work. But since this album of mine has six songs, I thought it would be nice for you all to hear the sixth song, which goes like this:

I came to the hospital on hands and knees
Saying ‘oh somebody anybody help me please’
I left this place with a smile on my face
What a wonder to be cared for by the likes of these!

Treating Others with Christlike Kindness

I noticed something as I sat in my hospital bed. Some people treated the nurses and doctors with rudeness and contempt. They were nasty and impatient, often racist, and always thankless. I didn't want to be like that at all, and so I did my best to treat the staff with kindness, and gratitude, and to smile and engage with them as best as I could in the state I was in.

I received such great treatment! And yet I imagine others in the same ward went home and said "what a terrible hospital!"

Remember when Jesus said "do to others as you would have them do to you"? When you're in a hospital, it's easy to be grouchy and grumpy. But it's exactly in that moment that you have an opportunity to be Christlike in your treatment of people! And I have no doubt that many hospital staff members will give that extra 5% to you and your care, if you treat them well in the first place.

Words of Encouragement Matter

It can't be easy, working in a hospital! It must be terribly draining on your spirit and your body. In this song I tried to honour the staff who cared for me. I actually sent this song to one of the nurses, and I hope the words blessed her and the other staff:

So on those days when your strength is gone
And you don’t know if you really even wanna go on
Please think again, we need you friends!
Just call to mind the words of this patient’s song

Does somebody in your life need encouragement from you? A thank you? A note of gratitude? Sometimes a simple word of encouragement can go a long long way.

So this goes out to those good people who were so kind to me in my hospital stay. May it lead us all to treat others with kindness and with gratitude:

I wanna say thank you, thank you all
And may God bless you, and keep you all
I cherish you and the work that you do
Stand straight, stand proud, stand tall
I wanna say thank you, thank you all
