Seeking Him
So let's look at this first encounter with the risen Christ. Matthew Chapter 28 begins with these words:
"After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb." And then a few verses later in Matthew 28:9, "Suddenly Jesus met them." "Greetings," He said.
Here's the truth, friends. Jesus meets you when you seek Him. These women were active. They went out, they walked to the tomb, they went seeking Him, and He found them.
Daily Spiritual Focus
You know, it amazes me in my own life how little I seek God sometimes. Oh, I'm quick to seek validation on my cell phone, checking for more WhatsApp messages, hoping to see that little red number on Facebook that I've got a notification.
I'm quick to seek entertainment for myself, watching another YouTube video, finding some new show to keep me entertained. I'm quick to seek gratification in some new music or books or articles or whatever. Quick to open my laptop and start working.
I'm quick to seek these things, but I'm slow to seek God. Slow to pray in the morning often. Slow to open my Bible and get stuck in to the powerful Word of God. Slow to find the time to sit with my Saviour and just be quiet in prayer and His presence.
The pull to be busy and find something to fill my mind is strong. The pull to spend time with my God is often weak.
Seek Him First
These women, they went seeking Him. They could have sat in the upper room with the other disciples doing very little, but they got up and they went towards Him. I believe that you and I should be heading towards God daily. Put your phone in the other room, or if you use it for your Bible, put it on flight mode so that nobody can disturb you. Get quiet, get alone with God. No distractions. Seek Him. Seek Him and He will come to you.
I love how Jesus shows up in their presence here. The Angel tells them to go and spread the news to the other disciples, and suddenly Jesus meets them! He just arrives. You know, sometimes we sit with God in prayer and in the Bible and we don't feel much, but He's coming! He's coming. Sometimes it just takes a little bit longer. Sometimes we're too impatient and we rush off without giving Him the time to talk to us.
But He'll come. He'll come. Seek God this week, friends. Seek the risen Christ. Spend time with Him, don't get distracted, and I believe suddenly He'll show up in your presence.
