Worshipping Him
We spoke yesterday how Mary Magdalene and the ladies came to Jesus seeking Him. But see what verse nine says. “Jesus met them. “Greetings,” He said. They came to Him, clasped His feet, and worshipped Him.”
Worship Comes First
Think about this. Their default setting when coming into the presence of Jesus was worship.
What's your default setting when you meet with Jesus—complaining? Asking for help first? Asking for advice first? You know, you can do those things. They're all valid. They're all part of our relationship with God. But worship must come first.
Remember the ACTS acronym for prayer: Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication. Adoration comes first. We fall at His feet and we worship first.
How are you doing in this regard, I wonder? So often I think we miss out on the joy of worship because we're just not expressive enough. We're intellectual Christians and we're not really worshipful Christians. But these ladies fell at His feet in great physical adoration and worshipped Him.
Everyday Worship
That's not to say we need to put worship in a box and say, “OK, I'll worship now and then go into the day.” Not quite. In fact, I love A. W. Tozer's words. He said: "I've got to tell you that if you do not worship God seven days a week, you do not worship Him on Sunday. There's no such thing known in Heaven as Sunday worship unless it is accompanied by Monday worship and Tuesday worship and so on.
“Too many of us," he says, "discharge our obligations to God in one day, usually at church. Sometimes we nobly make two trips to church, and that's supposed to be worship. I will grant that it can be true worship, provided on Monday and Saturday we were also worshipping."
Then he says: "You don't need to be in church. You can worship God at your desk, on an elevated train, driving in traffic. You can worship God washing dishes or ironing clothing. You can worship God in school or on a basketball court. You can worship God in whatever activities are legitimate and right and good. You need not be in church all the time. How could you be?"
Great words, and I hope that they will encourage you today. Let your spirit fall at His feet, whatever you're doing today. Yes, set aside time to spend with Him, as we said, but worship Him, whatever you're doing. Get close to Him, whatever you're doing. Fall at His feet and give Him praise, whatever you're doing, and find your soul flying as you do.
