The Folded Cloth
Luke: I hope you're enjoying my friend Rev Ray Goddess and his reflections on Easter and our devotions this week.
Ray: John and Peter ran to the tomb to see what had happened. John was faster than Peter, and he saw that the tomb was indeed open, and just peered in and saw the linen but didn't go in. Peter, being Peter, did not just look in, but he ran into the tomb immediately and found the tomb empty, number one; number two, the strips of linen that were lying there, separated from the cloth that had wrapped Jesus' head.
The Headcloth Separated
In writing his gospel, John noted that the head cloth was separated, and in some versions of the Bible it says that it was folded neatly. This is the significance of the folded cloth: You see, in those days, the custom was when you were eating, if you had got up from the table and you took your napkin and folded it and put it on your plate or next to your plate, it meant that you were coming back. You weren't finished with your food.
Jesus Is Not Done
Jesus had left the headcloth folded neatly at the head of the place where He was lying. The significance was that He left a message to say He's coming back. He wasn't finished yet and we praise God that Jesus is never, ever finished. He lives forevermore.
