The Glass Door
We've gone back to 2008 to listen to Derek Wilson's Easter sermon about the doors that God opens in our lives when we have Easter faith.
“Second door - bottom left - is a door with glass in it, perhaps mirrored glass. Stand in front of a mirrored door and you will get your picture reflected back to you.
But what is behind the door? You know, I drive through the suburbs often and I look at walls and fences and electric wires and guard dogs, and I often ask myself, I wonder what's going on behind all that security. And figuratively, I'm simply saying: What goes on behind your front door? Because what people see from the outside is not necessarily what people see from inside.
Reclaiming Your True Identity
Many of us are victims of identity theft. It's affecting our life these days. Credit cards. Your I.D. book gets stolen. There are people these days who discovered that they’re married to some foreigner because they had the I.D. stolen. It's a fact. And do you know how much trouble you have to get your I.D. back? It's unbelievable.
Who are you? Who is the real you? What brokenness do you hide behind the ‘brave, got it all together, calm and collected’ exterior? What is hidden? What is lurking behind that brave exterior? How has your family, how has your friends, your career turned you into someone you are not? How has the world managed to tell you that you are useless, that you're stupid, that you're ugly, that you're fat?
How has the world stolen the real you away from you? And I'll tell you what they are many, many, many, many victims of that in this place right now. Is the real you locked up behind some mirror door somewhere? Hidden behind a reflection of who you are not? What if today you were to open that mirror door and to receive the resurrection power of Jesus Christ and come out of your tomb - whole. New. Resurrected. A whole new you, a whole new Easter hope.
Embracing the Easter Message of Transformation
What if we get away from behind the mirror and let the real person that is behind that mirror come out? That's what Jesus did on Easter Day. That's what he made possible.”
Amen to that. The Easter story means that we can come out of hiding, be ourselves, and find the healing that Jesus offers.
Will you do that today? I pray you will. And that you will find the love of Jesus there for you to bring you the transformation you need.
