Remission of Sins
Once you have recognised and repented of your sin, the next step is to trust God for the remission of your sin.
We read: "Peter replied, 'Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.'" (Acts 2:38)
The old King James Version uses the word "remission" of your sins - and some cancer patients know the joy of going into remission. It means there is no sign of the sickness anymore. It is gone! Yes, it can come back - and we will talk about that tomorrow. But in a very real sense it is gone, and this is what God wants to do for us. He wants to remove the sin from your record, so that He can open your file and say: you are illness-free!
The Schoolboy's Hallelujah
There's a lovely story of a schoolchild who kept disrupting his class by shouting "Hallelujah!" The teacher eventually sent him to the principal's office. The busy principal handed him a geography book, thinking there would be nothing in there to get him going again. Suddenly the principal heard a loud "Hallelujah!" He dashed over to the boy and asked what on earth had happened. The boy replied, "I just read that the depth of some oceans has not been discovered. My Bible says that my sins have been cast into the depth of the sea - hallelujah!"
The remission of sins, friends, is exactly that - a casting of those sins into the deepest sea! The prophet Micah spoke of the day when "You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea." (Micah 7:19) That day came when Jesus died on the cross.
The Cure That Was Already Paid For
Going back to the sickness analogy: the cure for our illness didn't just come out of nowhere. It was bought at a price. It was paid for. And here's the kicker - it was paid for by the Great Doctor Himself! Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, died on the cross, and the blood that flowed is the cure. It's what gets us into remission and casts out our sin - if we take it.
You can't buy the cure for your sin-sickness! Most people today think that if they do enough good things, that will buy them their cure. But it has already been bought and paid for by Christ. So now we can say to Him, "I can't pay for that cure - no matter what I offer You, it will not be enough. My trust is in You and in what You did!" The moment you believe that, the cure is administered. The sickness is gone. The sins remitted. The guilt washed away.
You want to deal with your sin? Recognise it. Repent of it. Trust Jesus for the remission of your sins. He’s paid for it, you just have to receive it from His loving hands.
Maybe you'll start shouting "Hallelujah" everywhere you go too, because everything reminds you of how He took your sins and cast them into the sea - and got you into remission.
The cure for sin has already been bought and paid for by Jesus Christ - all you have to do is receive it. Trust Him today as the Great Doctor of your soul, and let Him get you into remission.
