You've Identified Jesus... But Are You Following Him?
One more thought on Jesus as the Lamb today, and we go to the beginning of the gospels this time, where we read this:
"The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, 'Look, the Lamb of God!' When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, 'What do you want?' They said, 'Rabbi' (which means 'Teacher'), 'where are you staying?' 'Come,' he replied, 'and you will see.'" (John 1:35-39)
Notice what happened here. John pointed out that Jesus is the Lamb of God. His two disciples heard this, saw Jesus as He was, and followed Jesus.
Don't Just Watch the Lamb Pass By
You can hear people preach about the Lamb all day long. You can see them point Him out time and again. But if you don't follow Him, you don't get what He offers.
I wonder today, if you have heard and seen Jesus being identified as the Lamb many times, but have sat and watched Him pass by?
Maybe today is the day you jump up and start following Him? Start living with Him and for Him?
When the disciples of John did this, Jesus turned and asked them what they wanted. They replied by asking Him where He was staying, and Jesus then said, "Come and you will see."
What It Means to Truly Follow Jesus
Friends, if you will get up and follow Jesus, you will see amazing things. You will see lives changed - not just your own, but many lives along the way. You will see people healed and helped and led through all sorts. You will see hearts on fire and also hearts that reject Jesus with bitterness. You will see heavenly things on earth, and hope for the day when you see more heavenly things in the Father's presence.
But you have to follow the Lamb! You have to get up and live with Him.
Too often we are content to identify Him, but not follow. We are content to be Christians by association, but not by lifestyle. We call ourselves by His name, but we don't play His game. We don't gather with other Christians on Sundays. We don't open our Bibles much. We don't pray more than the odd line here or there. We don't ever share our faith, certainly not.
Jesus is saying, "Come! Come follow Me, and you will see!"
This week we talked a lot about the Lamb and what it means that Jesus is the Lamb. But friends, do more than just listen and watch Him pass by. Follow Him today.
You will see what He can do, even now 2000 years later.
John pointed and said, "Look, the Lamb of God!" - and his disciples didn't just nod in agreement. They got up and followed.
