God My Help

A God for Year End - God My Help

As we continue with Psalm 18, in verses 3-6 we read David saying, “I call to the Lord who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies. The cords of death entangled me. The torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. The cords of the grave coiled around me. The snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called to the Lord. I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice. My cry came before him into his ears.”

God is Help

And so hear David struggle, feeling overwhelmed, feeling as if death was close, feeling distressed, but crying out to God for help. God is our help. And you know, that is quite a derogatory term. You can say, oh, the help will take care of it. You know, people who have domestic workers can refer to them quite disrespectfully as the help, but man God is the one who is the help or our help!

And remember, Jesus said he came not to be served, but to serve. And that's actually amazing. The fact that the God of the universe would actually condescend or come down to help us is remarkable.

God is Near

Now David says that God heard him from his temple, because in those days God's presence was confined to the temple. But friends, we have the great, great privilege of having God in us. Holy Spirit entering in us. We don't have to cry out and hope God will hear us in his faraway fortress. No, we can cry out and know that God is right here, right here to help us along.

Will you allow God to be your helper? Will you allow him to enter into your life and help you walk, help you stand, help you do what you've got to do? There's no greater helper than the Most High God who loves you and I enough to help us through our days.

May we have faith in him today as he hears our voice and offers his hand of help in all that we're doing.
