God My Power
God is our strength and our help, as we've seen in verses one to six of Psalm 18. Verses 7 to 15 show God in his majesty and in his power. David says: “The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it” and he goes on. Down at the bottom, verse 13: “The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.”
Unfailing Divine Power
Reading these types of descriptions of God, we remember that he is powerful and that it is his power that can really help us in this life. Here in South Africa, we're always complaining because our power gets switched off because of bad management and corruption and all sorts of other reasons. We've got load shedding, which is switching off of our electricity for a couple of hours most days, and sometimes more than that. But you know, even if they switch off our electricity, they can never switch off the power of God in our lives!
But you know what? We can forget about it. We can start to think that God is not powerful. Passages like this remind us God has got great power at his fingertips, and amazingly, he offers it to us. Ephesians 1:19 talks about “God's incomparably great power for us who believe. That power,” Paul said, “is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms.”
Power Through Faith
In other words, this powerful God whose power can even raise the dead is in our lives if we have that faith. Do you have faith today that God's power is at work in your life? Believe that today. Believe it. Hold on to it in faith, because it's true, my friends, the same powerful God that parts the heavens and thunders over the earth, raised Christ from the dead, and pours his power into our life if we will have the faith to activate it.
And so cry out to him today. Believe in him today, and may his power lift you up and in all sorts of difficulties you might be facing, help you through.
