Jesus is One With the Father

So Jesus said that him and his father are always working. And then in verse 18 of John 5, having heard this, the Jewish leaders “tried all the more to kill him” the scripture says, "not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own father, making himself equal with God.” Verse 19 says “Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.”

Distinct Yet Unified

You know, there are some who believe that Jesus was just a prophet. That Jesus was not equal to the Father, but was less than the Father. Jesus is the Son of God, but not a part of God, that he is not part of a Trinity.

There are people like the Oneness Pentecostals who don't believe in Father, Son and Spirit as three separate persons, but three different manifestations of the same one being.

But here clearly you see Jesus speaking about himself and the Father as two separate entities. He calls God his Father. They are separate but equal. One God in three persons, Father, Son and Spirit.

Worship Jesus Fully

Do you have a big view of Jesus as part of the Trinity? He says here that the great works that he did on earth prove his divine nature. And in fact, in verse 23, he even said whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father. They are so closely connected that you can't have the Father unless you have the Son.

And so have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ? Have you trusted in him as your Saviour? Do you know him to be not just a prophet or a good man of God, but as one with the Father?

Jesus is worthy of our praise! Jesus is the Lamb of God who took away our sins. Jesus was there with God from the very beginning, as John says in John 1. Worship him today. Give him the glory in your heart today.

Because in the end, friends, it's all about Jesus. If your life is in him, your faith is in him. Then you're honoring the Father as well.
