How Can I Find the Words?
So you’re hearing, in these new songs of mine, my passion for God’s saving and sanctifying grace. And you’ll hear it again in this song, which is called How Can I Find the Words. Here is verse 1:
How can I find the words to thank You for what You’ve done?
All glory and praise to You, Father, Spirit, Son
You have forgiven me, and taken away my shame
I stand in Your presence, and worship Your holy name
Worship Him for His Grace
It’s a worship song, praising His name for His forgiveness and removal of my shame. Oh, I’m so grateful that He has done this in my life! And then verse 2 moves on – you guessed it – to worship Him for delivering and purifying me:
How can I find the words to thank You for what You’ve done?
All glory and praise to You, Father, Spirit, Son
You have delivered me, and purified me by grace
I stand in Your presence, and worship You in this place
His grace is sufficient to forgive sin, and to purify us from it so that we no longer walk in it. And so, we worship! We worship Him for this amazing love, and for the transformation it brings. The chorus of the song is probably my favourite moment in the whole album:
O how wonderful, how beautiful, the perfect love of Jesus
Turning sinners into saints by grace alone
I am humbled and amazed that He would cleanse this heart of mine
So I sing glory glory, I’m saved and sanctified
Saved and Sanctified
Saved and sanctified – I love these words, declaring God’s wonderful grace that loves and transforms. And maybe you heard the words there “turning sinners into saints”. We’re all sinners, initially. We all fall short of the glory of God and find ourselves sinning and rejecting Him. And even when He saves us, we still find that we do things we don’t want to do, and keep messing up. But I believe when we offer Him our all, and ask for His cleansing power to change our hearts, and believe in His ability and willingness to do so right now and each moment, we find that we no longer run after those old sins. We become saints, truly – not perfect, not having arrived, but not dominated by sin anymore.
When you get this, and realise what Jesus has done for you, oh you’ll sing! And perhaps like me, you’ll be singing “glory glory, I’m saved and sanctified” with much joy!
