Dealing With Change
It's our third week in a little series called Deal With It. Life throws us many challenges, and we have to learn to deal with them, or else they will overwhelm us! Our deep belief is that God's grace is sufficient to help us to deal with whatever may come our way.
This week I want us to consider what it means to deal with change.
Change Sayings
Let's play a bit of a game, shall we? Fill in the blank:
The more things change, the more they __________ (stay the same). This is a famous saying about the state of our world - things change, but human nature is the same as it always was, and so the same patterns repeat time and again in history, even if culture or technology change.
Another one with the same message is: Change is the only __________ (constant). This is thought to have been said by Heraclitus, the Greek philosopher, who lived 500 years before Christ. His words have been self-fulfilling, in a sense.
A change is as good as a ________________ (holiday!) I had a teacher in school who loved to say this, and she would change our seating around, or change the class around or something, as she said this.
Be the change ____________ (you want to see in the world). This one is often misattributed to Gandhi. But he didn't say it. It's a good principle for our personal responsibility to bring about the transformation of the world instead of just complaining that things aren't the way we would like them to be. Michael Jackson even sang about this - about starting with the man in the mirror, asking him to change his ways, you may remember.
Change Is Coming - Are You Ready?
Change is a part of life. Shereen and I have found that out this year! And I’ve struggled at times to adapt to our new life with twins! Everything is different, and we are learning to deal with it.
Change is the only constant - things are going to change. Every human being that's ever lived has had to learn to deal with change.
Are you willing to deal with change? If you’re willing, half the battle is won.
Change is the one constant in life, and every one of us must learn to deal with it. Ask God today to give you the grace to face whatever change may be coming your way.
Thank you for the support my friends! For your extra devo today, I want to share my own testimony of learning to love people
The Holy Spirit is not a force or a ghost, but a person - the third member of the Trinity - who longs to soak into every part of who you are and transform you into the likeness of Christ. Open yourself fully to His work today.
Paul's conversion didn't just make him bold - it gave him a deep, tender compassion for people that marks every page of his writings. Go into the world today as a Spirit-filled person, and let that same compassion shape how you treat those around you.
Paul's encounter with Jesus on the Damascus road converted him from a self-righteous persecutor into a humble follower of Christ. Have you truly been converted, or are you carrying on as you always have?
When Peter received the Holy Spirit, the fumbling and failures of his earlier years gave way to extraordinary fruit - bold preaching, miraculous healing, and remarkable courage. Examine today what fruit the Spirit has produced in your life, and ask God to fill you afresh.
Peter's cycle of failure and forgiveness was broken when he received the fire of the Holy Spirit - and the same transformation is available to you. Ask God today to fill you afresh with His Spirit's power.
Paul's vision in Romans 6 is breathtaking - a life died to sin and raised again in Christ. Ask yourself today whether you are truly living as a new creation, or still sitting in the old life that Christ came to set you free from.
God’s grace did more for Manasseh than just forgive him. It transformed him. Do you need to start living for God more purposefully, as a forgiven child?
When we fully surrender every room in our heart to Jesus, He brings complete transformation to our lives, just as He did for Zacchaeus.
Jesus stands ready to transform any heart that truly believes in His power to change them. Do you believe that He can make you clean?
True transformation requires us to be desperate enough to beg Jesus for change. Have you grown too comfortable with the sin in your life?
Don’t let fear hold you back—Jesus is calling you to join His mission today!
Jesus offers more than superficial change—He transforms us completely if we open ourselves to His grace.
Our bodies change with age, but God's love for us never wavers regardless of our outward appearance. Embrace the changes time brings, and remember that God places His emphasis on inward beauty, not outward.
