My God is Near
Sometimes it seems like God is out of earshot, or not paying attention to us. But Psalm 145 gives us the assurance that God is near when we call.
My God is Trustworthy
When we end our prayers with the word “amen”, we are declaring our trust in God. He is a God who keeps His promises, as Psalm 145 points out.
My God is Good to All
Is God only good to Christians? Psalm 145 says that God is good to all people, and Jesus’ words in Matthew 5 confirm this.
My God is Gracious and Compassionate
Psalm 145 says talks of God’s grace and compassion. How incredible that He would withhold His anger and pour out mercy instead!
My God is Great
As Psalm 145 shows, my God is not a small, weak God. He is considerably above average in every way – so great that none can fathom!
Do Not Envy the Godless
When we see the godless around us prospering, it’s easy to envy them. But let’s remember their ultimate fate apart from God, and remember our ultimate joy with Him.
Do Not Accuse Falsely
It’s easy to exaggerate or speak subtle lies about somebody. But Jesus calls us to radical honesty – like Solomon did in Proverbs 3.
Do Not Plot Harm
In a world that doesn’t care about harming others in order to gain, let us remember the golden rule – do to others as you would have done to you.
Do Not Procrastinate
When God calls us to do something, let’s not put it off to tomorrow. Do it today!
Do Not Withhold Good
We all have opportunities to do good to others. Let us faithfully do what we can, and not let such opportunities pass us by.
From Faltering to Faithful
If we want the blessings of the risen Christ, we must be willing, like Thomas, to lay aside our doubts and take a step in faith
From Paralyzed to Purposeful
Jesus gave the disciples a great new purpose – to take His message into the world, and to do the same things He had done. Are we sharing the good news, and living lives of love, healing and forgiveness?
From Heartbroken to Happy
When Jesus appeared to the heartbroken disciples in the Upper Room, he restored their joy! He can do the same for you.
From Panicked to Peaceful
Jesus’ startling presence turned the disciples from panicked to peaceful. He can do the same for you and I today.
Startled by Jesus
Jesus startled the disciples on the day he appeared to them in the Upper Room. Sometimes we all need God to startle us and give us a wake up! Maybe today is that day for you.
So Beautiful to Go!
Frances Havergal died with the name of Jesus on her lips. Hers was a great hope – not just for this life, but also for the life to come. We too have such hope!
Don't Forget the Giver!
When Frances Havergal’s music career began to take off, she realized that the applause meant more to her than God. How often we can fall into the same trap!
Receiving Comfort, Comforting Others
Frances Havergal went through some dark moments, but God comforted her through them and she was able to comfort others as a result. This is what all our suffering is about – passing on the same comfort God gives us with others.
Five Minutes
When Frances Havergal had five minutes on her hands, she didn’t waste them away, but used them productively. This is a lost art in our day!
Quiet Rejoicing in His Will
Frances Ridley Havergal was one of the great hymnwriters of her day. Some words from her biography inspire us this week – starting with her Father’s quiet rejoicing in God even in his illness.
