What is the salvation God offers us? It is salvation from sin’s punishment, sin’s power, and one day sin’s presence.

God uses all sorts of things in our lives to reveal Himself and draw us closer to Him – even when we aren’t aware. But in the end, we’ve got to accept the invitation and not reject it.

Who deserves salvation? None of us. Who is offered salvation? All of us.

Onesimus was slave who ran away from his owner Philemon, and encountered Paul who led him to Christ. There’s an “Onesimus” in all of us, running away – but Christ reaches out his hand to save us.

Paul writes to Philemon and says that he still has some growing to do. Don’t we all! We need to keep a teachable spirit to avoid becoming like Pharisees.

Philemon and Paul were partners in the gospel. How good to have fellow Christians to journey with! But better still, is the greatest Partner of all, our Saviour Jesus.

Philemon was a man deeply committed to his faith, and Paul and others had heard about it. Does our commitment to Jesus show?

Paul saw in Philemon a great love for other people. If we are to be committed Christians, this is where it all begins.

Philemon is not one of the names we think of when we list great disciples of Jesus. But he was a committed believer who did much good for the kingdom. You don’t have to be a Paul or a Peter to be committed to God.

Wally Herron’s last sermon helped his family and friends cope with his untimely death. His message “God knows” reminds us, even today, that we can trust God even through tragedy.

When God seems slow in changing difficult situations, it is likely that He is at work preparing something wonderful. This is what Wally and Emily Herron found out in Bolivia, when a situation became very dangerous.

Wally Herron’s wife, Emily, learned that when we are obedient to God’s call, he “works out all things for good” (Romans 8:28).

In a moment of great difficulty, Wally Herron was able to see how God had helped him. He praised God even though he was tired and weary. Let’s do the same.

Wally Herron wanted to be a missionary, but he was told it was not for him. He wanted to a pilot, but he was told he’d never pass the test. A few years later, he was the greatest missionary pilot the world had seen.

Wally Herron was a missionary pilot known as the Condor of the Jungle. Early in his life he learned what real faith is – not sitting waiting for God to move, but acting and believing that God will help you.

Psalm 119 tells us time and time again to find our delight in God’s Word. Nothing else can satisfy us quite like He can!
