This Fleeting Breath
Toplady ends his great hymn by reflecting on his fleeting breath, and the fact that he would face God in judgement one day. But thank God - a story from Peter Marshall reminds us of the great work of Jesus which will protect His children on judgement day.
Wash Me Saviour
Toplady's words are drenched in humility… His desperate need for His Saviour is obvious from the words of his hymn. Jesus always seemed to prefer the company of the humble. Will you humble yourself today and sing "foul, I to the fountain fly, wash me Saviour, or I die"?
Thou Alone Must Save
August Toplady was a fierce opponent of John Wesley. Toplady was a Calvinist, Wesley believed in free-will. Today the debate between these camps rages on - but let's focus on the truth that no works, no zeal, no tears can make us right with God. HE must save us alone!
The Double Cure
Christ's sacrifice brings us a double-cure from the water and the blood that flowed from his side. His blood cleanses our guilt, His water cleanses and purifies us. Let's live cured today - saved from wrath and made pure in Christ.
Cleft For Me
The God who is solid, unflinching, unmoveable - the Rock of Ages - was cleft or "split apart" on the cross to open the way for us to come to God. Let's sing "Rock of ages cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee" today.
Taking Your Experiences to Others
Dr Seth could've kept his great discovery to himself… but he found people who needed what he'd given to Melissa, and offered it to them to. Who could benefit from your sharing your knowledge, your calling, and your experiences? Find ways to help others with what you've gone through, and God will surely honour that.
Ideas Change the World
Dr Seth's idea to perform an experimental surgery changed the world! Or at the very least, it changed Melissa's world. What ideas has God given you? Go through with them friends.
Sacred Moments in a Hospital
A prayer before Melissa's surgery was meaningful and helpful. Are we praying for our sick family and friends… as well as for our doctors, nurses, paramedics and more? The truth is, even a tragic time in hospital is an opportunity for prayer.
The God of Miracles
Melissa and Dr Seth's story is one of miracles… there were simply too many seeming coincidences to believe otherwise. Believe that God is working miracles in your life today!
Focus On What You Can Do, Not What You've Lost
Having lost an arm, Melissa Loomis was wise - she focused on what she could do going forward, rather than on what she had lost. What a good example for you and I.
Negativity Infection
Dr Seth realized that negativity is a dangerous infection which could damage his mind ahead of the operation. You can't afford to let negativity take over friends! Instead, fill your minds with some truths from Scripture.
Don't Play it Safe
Dr Seth felt that God was calling him to do something great with his life - not to settle for "safe". What about you!? What great things might God be calling you to do?
God Has the Final Say
Dr Seth, like other doctors, came to see that God is in control in the end. What solace we take in this, because we know He is working all things out for our good.
Cutting Off Infected Limbs
Melissa Loomis learned that losing a hand was a price worth paying to save her life. Jesus had taught something similar in spiritual terms many years before.
Losing an Arm... With a Smile
When Melissa Loomis lost her arm, she could've complained and moaned. Instead, she faced it with a calm spirit that shocked even her doctor. As Christians, we can also face our struggles with dignity and strength… with God's help.
Be Reborn and Renewed
After five weeks on Titus, we see God’s grace transforms us from sin to new life through Jesus’ mercy and the Spirit’s renewal—empowering us to live in obedience, peace, and love. Amen.
Be a Champion for Unity
Division weakens the Church and delights the enemy. Paul warns against it, urging us to pursue unity. Let’s resist discord, stand together, and reflect Christ through harmony in our faith communities.
Be Peaceful, Considerate, Gentle
Paul urges us to live peaceably, with kindness and gentleness toward all. Small acts of love—rooted in Christ’s Spirit—bring lasting joy and reflect heaven in our daily lives.
Be Committed to Obedience
As Christ-followers, we’re called to live obedient, godly lives—honoring both earthly authority and, above all, God's commands. Our identity in Christ shapes who we are, not just what we do.
