Note: we are in the process of formatting Luke’s 5 years’ worth of daily devotions into this format. More and more of the previous episodes will be added each week until we are up to date!
Seeking Faith Without Persecutions
Paul warns Timothy of the misguided notion that the Christian faith takes away all your struggle. In fact, difficulties abound for the real Christian – but they are very much worth the trouble.
Seeking Godliness Without Power
Many people have what Paul calls ‘a form of godliness without the power’. May we not be such people!
Seeking Knowledge Without Truth
In a world filled with knowledge, many of us miss the truth. May we not be such misguided people.
Seeking Pleasure Without God
Paul warns Timothy of people who look for pleasure outside of a relationship with God. This is a misguided way living.
Holiness – A Call to Conduct
God’s call to holiness is a call to godly conduct – rejecting the worldly ways of our pasts and embracing a Spirit-filled life that honours God.
Holiness – A Call to Concern
Holiness is rooted in care and compassion. If we are called to be holy, this always means showing the love of Christ to the people around us – especially those in need.
Holiness – A Call to Credibility
Is our faith over-simplified, or is it credible? Donald Shafer argues that a holy faith must be intellectually credible for it to be taken seriously.
Holiness – A Call to Commitment
God’s call to holiness is about more than being loved – it’s about becoming more like Jesus each day. Are we committed to this call?
Holiness – In Jesus Alone
No so-called “holy men” can bring us to true holiness. Only one person holds the key to a holy and whole life – Jesus Christ.
Small Things Make Big Differences
A small word like “yet” can make a huge difference. Don’t underestimate a small change in your life – it might just save you from disaster.
Yet… Not My Will, But Yours
We all have our wants and desires, but the deep Christian says “yet… not my will, but Yours be done Lord”, as Jesus did the night He was arrested
Yet… Not I, But by God’s Grace
Christians do great things for God, while acknowledging that it is God Himself who does achieves great things through us.
Yet… God is Merciful
The Bible is clear that though we fall short of God’s mercy, YET He is merciful to us. What a wonderful truth to take to heart!
Yet… God is Holding Me
As Christians we don’t pretend that life isn’t challenging. We acknowledge it, but we also acknowledge that God holds us through the storms.
Job Didn’t Conceal His Sin
Job could’ve pretended to be perfect, but he made the decision not to hide sin in his heart. Let’s find freedom through confession, rather than hiding our sins away.
Job Didn’t Trust in False Gods
Another reason Job was blameless before God was because of his refusal to trust in his money or in other idols. What a lesson we learn from him in this regard.
Job Didn’t Deny the Poor
Job was also blameless in his treatment of the poor – much like John Wesley. Are we caring for the poor as we ought to?
Job Didn’t Mistreat People
Job was ahead of his time – treating people who were socially lower than him with great respect. How do you treat people?
Job Didn’t Lust
Job shows us that a pure life is possible. Will you make a covenant to be pure, as he did?
