My Past Put Behind Me
The sermon by W. Herschel Ford, titled "Since Jesus Came Into My Heart," emphasizes the transformative power of Jesus entering one's heart. It draws from Titus 3:3, which describes the past sinful lives of individuals before they accepted Jesus. The sermon tells the story of Dr. Charles E. Fuller, a radio preacher, whose message led a man to salvation, bringing peace to his family. Ford urges individuals to reflect on whether they have truly put away their past sins and faults since inviting Jesus into their hearts. The message encourages leaving the past behind, finding joy in Christ, and living a new life centered around Him.
Keeping God’s Glory Central
Hezekiah's prayer in 2 Kings 19:19 emphasizes the importance of keeping God's glory central in our prayers and lives. My friend Beppie, a blind Christian, shows that sometimes our difficulties can serve to glorify God.
Asking for Deliverance
In Hezekiah's prayer, he emphasizes the importance of not just complaining to God about our problems but also asking for His help and deliverance.
Declaring God’s greatness
In 2 Kings 19:15, Hezekiah's prayer exemplifies the power of acknowledging God's greatness before presenting our troubles. This order is crucial; complaining without declaring God's greatness is futile.
Admitting We Need Help
Hezekiah's prayer underscores the value of balancing faith with acknowledging the gravity of our challenges. Rather than pretending everything is fine, we should approach God honestly, seeking His help when we face difficulties.
“Spreading out” your problems before God
Just as Hezekiah spread his concerns before the Lord, we should bring our challenges to God, allowing Him to work in our lives. This act of prayer can bring peace and alleviate needless pain.
Are You In Awe?
The people were in awe of Jesus, amazed at his remarkable power and love! Are we? Or have we begun to get too familiar with these stories?
Are You Doubting?
When the Pharisees doubted and grumbled in their minds, Jesus knew. Likewise, He sees us and says "why are you saying such things?" We need to get out of our defeatist mindsets and begin believing in His power.
Are You Sitting on Your Mat?
Jesus gave the paralyzed man more than forgiveness - he gave him victory and power. So often we are content to sit on our mats, but Jesus has set us free and we must walk in that freedom!
Are You Ashamed of Your Sin?
Jesus looked at the man on his mat and saw that he needed spiritual healing before physical healing. Jesus always knows our deepest needs - especially our need to be free of shame and guilt.
Are You Carrying Your Friends?
Christians are the type of people who carry their friends to God in prayer - like the men who carried their friend to Jesus on a mat, and lowered him through a roof.
Supporting the Work of God
Jesus’ women followers were joyfully supporting the ministry he offered. Are we what we have to support God’s work today?
Susanna and the Unknowns
Unknown and unnamed heroes fill Christian history. Perhaps most of us will be forgotten - but our acts of love are not forgotten by God.
Joanna - a “High-Up”
It was not only the poor that Jesus was connected to. Even the rich, the “high-ups” heard his message and believed. Joanna, wife of Chuza, was one.
Mary Magdalene - Freed From Bondage
Mary Magdalene had a wonderful story of transformation - delivered from her bondage by Jesus. Yours can be a similar story, because Jesus is willing and able to deliver us from evil.
They Were “With Him”
As Jesus went from village to village preaching, his followers went with him. Are you walking around "with Him" in your life? Or do you just know "of Him"?
Fiery Trials
God sends us into fiery trials, promising to go with us and protect us from bring scorched, because it's in the fire that we are refined like gold.
The Fire of False Miracles
In Revelation John sees a beast performing false miracles, wowing the people and deceiving them into leaving Jesus. Will we be deceived? Or will our eyes stay fixed on Him, when these false miracles come?
The Fiery Tongue
James warns that the tongue is a fire! And it only takes a small spark from it to do great damage. Our words are more powerful than we realise.
The Fire of Judgement
The Bible is filled with stories of fires of judgement - even from the lips of Jesus. We dare not take such a teaching lightly!
